Zak Kyes Lecture

I spent a recent evening at the Walker Art Center for the Insights 2026 series, and Zak Kyes’s lecture, "Identity Crisis," really hit home. As I sat in the audience, I found myself drawn into his "Crisis Overrides" framework—a fascinating look at how we, as creators, can maintain our own sense of authorship and strategic agency in a world increasingly dominated by platform capitalism and rapid technological shifts.

Kyes didn’t just talk about aesthetics; he dove into the "professional uncertainty" that defines modern design. It was a refreshing reminder that the glitches and narratives we create aren't just details—they are how we keep our work human in a digital-first landscape. Leaving the Walker, I felt a sense of how to navigate those shifting boundaries while keeping my own creative voice front and center.
