Artist Statement
I am an emerging artist who loves to explore capturing beauty throughout a variety of mediums and themes. I attempt to transform materials in a way that reflects how I perceive the world around me: from the ocean, to animals, to experiences, to people. Specifically, I blend realism with abstraction to demonstrate the imaginative nature of reality; what things “are” greatly depends on how we understand them, including the emotions, places, and memories they remind us of. Thus, I enjoy pushing the boundaries of conventional expression to reveal the deeper meaning we don't automatically see.
There is not one particular style or theme I am committed to as I feel drawn to investigate the many unique aspects of this complex world–not just ideas, but materials too. From paint to mechanical parts, I believe all things can and should be used to create art. Overall, I view my art as my way to experiment with ideas while giving them a tangible form others can connect to.
Beyond fine art, I love to capture the delicate beauty of the spaces we live in through design. The spatial world interacts with the mental, emotional, and physiological worlds of every individual, so it is my goal to balance all of these aspects in everything I design, from architecture to ideating products. A good building is more than functional, it is a complex web of experiences custom to every person. What I design often reflects my own perspective and community interactions, but I hope in time to give a voice to others’ inner worlds as well.
