The Process
Artist / Project Statement:
My goal with this artwork was to represent the fiery moment of anger, irritation, and resentment that preludes a self-destructive outburst through an expressive acrylic portrait. My color palette was primarily warm to express the heat of the moment. I used deep red and the main color to represent deep frustration and anger brewing, and some orange to yellow to represent the energy, passion, and complexity of emotions that runs through your head before self-destructing. Additionally, I chose these colors, especially in the background, to resemble a fire, which I believe adequately represents how self-destructive behavior works, being sparked by friction, and burning everything in its path. I also chose the title "Phoenix" as a reference not only to the fiery nature of a phoenix, but also to the beginning of its rebirth-like cycle of self-destruction patterns. Similarly to many times before, the fire, passion, and anger is coming back alive, only to ultimately put itself out in the end.
