The Idea

This piece depicts a roly poly, tightly rolled up inside of a locker, to represent how students feel trapped by the pressures of school–such as bullying or academic stress–and how they shut down, creating hard facades, in order to escape. The base is made of layers of textured board material, painted with blue acrylic, to create a greater sense of dimension. The roly poly and stack of school books were painted with watercolor on separate paper and later glued into the locker.
