Emphasis of Diet Coke

Definition: Emphasis is the part of the design that catches the viewer's attention. Emphasis occurs any time an element of a piece is given dominance by the artist. In other words, the artist makes part of the work stand out in order to draw the viewer's eye there first. My Emphasis Sculpture: To display emphasis in this sculture, I decied to use elements of color, and scales of deatil to show emphaiss. I cut out all of the red pieces from the logos on the cans to create a small and detailed human heart. I created the base out of the smooth silver parts of the cans to create a simplistic and cool backdrop, allowing the heart to really pop in contrast.

  • I also decided to use the bottom of a can to create a dish for the heart to sit in, so the heart could be freely moved in order to see the detail on all of its sides. The four metal spikes are also pointing and drawing attention to the heart, resembling a metal claw. My goal was to display emphasis through how our unique human souls stand out, full of life and spirit, compared to the uniformity that is often expected of us in the modern world. One thing I feel I did well was showing a lot of detail in the small heart (which is kind of hard to see in the photos because of all of the reflecting light), which was actually pretty difficult considering how complex human hearts actually are. One thing I feel like I could have done better is not have relied so much on glue to keep the heart together. I think it would have looked much cleaner otherwise.
