Metal Transformed

I am incredibly excited to share that my bronze sculpture, Marten, has been selected for Metal Transformed: A National Exhibit of Metal Artworks. The exhibition will be hosted at the d'Art Center in Norfolk, Virginia, running from June 6th through July 11th. What makes this showcase particularly special is the venue itself—the artwork will be displayed in "The Vault," a historical bank vault located right in the heart of Norfolk's NEON Arts District. It is an intimate, unique environment perfectly suited for experiencing three-dimensional work up close.

Marten is a modern take on the animal. Rather than creating a static representation, I focused on capturing kinetic energy and anatomical vitality. The piece features great movement throughout, deliberately engineered to achieve a dramatic lift off the ground plane. Exploring the biological mechanics of the animal helped me conceptualize its wonderful mass, balancing a sense of heavy, grounded gravity with swift agility.

Bringing that organic energy to life in bronze required an intensive metal casting process. The extreme heat, pouring, and finishing techniques are what ultimately gave the sculpture its stunning texture. The tactile surface catches the light in a way that highlights the raw, transformed nature of the metal, fitting perfectly into the theme of this national call.

If you happen to be in the Norfolk area this summer, the d'Art Center is hosting a reception on Saturday, June 6th, from 11 am to 2 pm. I am incredibly honored to have my work featured in this competitive juried exhibition and can't wait for Marten to find its temporary home inside The Vault!
