RISD PreCollege
This summer, I had the opportunity to spend five weeks at Rhode Island School of Design’s Pre-College program, where I majored in Architecture as a Balfour Foundation Scholarship recipient. I am incredibly grateful for the scholarship and for the opportunity to spend my summer fully immersed in art and design.
RISD Pre-College was intense in the best possible way. Many days meant close to eight hours in the studio, moving between classes, critiques, model making, drawing, and independent work. For five weeks, designing and creating became the center of my day.
Studying architecture pushed me to think differently about space, structure, material, and how people experience the built environment. I especially enjoyed exploring the places where architecture and fine art overlap. At the same time, my other courses gave me opportunities to experiment with drawing, design, and three-dimensional work outside my major.
I left Providence with new work, new ways of thinking, and an even stronger interest in working across architecture and fine art. Most of all, I am grateful to the Balfour Foundation for making this experience possible. These five weeks gave me the time and space to experiment, take risks, and grow as both an artist and designer.
