Small Works
I am truly honored and incredibly grateful to share that my piece, Phoenix, has been selected for the national juried Small Works Exhibition at MVA Gallery, located at 35 E. Elizabeth Avenue in the historic arts district of Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. Running from May 9 through June 6, 2026, this exhibition is a curated celebration of the power of "big ideas" distilled into intimate formats, and I am deeply thankful to be included in a show that recognizes the unique intensity found within the diminutive.
My featured work, Phoenix, serves as a deep dive into the cyclical nature of resilience and the vibrant energy of rebirth. Conceptually, it captures the precise, high-stakes moment of transformation—that "colorful grand finale" where the old is shed to make way for the new. I wanted to explore how a period of rejuvenation is often preceded by a defiant spark, and in this piece, that energy is translated through dynamic, aggressive layering and a secondary palette that refuses to be ignored. By working within the "Small Works" constraints, I was forced to concentrate these vast, fiery emotions into a physical footprint under 18 inches, ensuring that every mark and texture carried maximum conceptual weight.
This process allowed for a technical study of how vibrant color can create its own sense of scale, inviting the viewer to step into a close-range, personal dialogue with the work. Hosted just an hour from New York City, MVA Gallery acts as a vital platform for contemporary artists to engage with a sophisticated East Coast network of collectors and professionals who prioritize both technical precision and deep conceptual depth. By navigating the powerful duality between the heavy shedding of personal history and the brilliant spark of a new beginning, Phoenix stands as a testament to the enduring strength found in moments of transition. I warmly welcome you to visit the gallery this spring to experience the collection in person and witness how these small-scale works command such immense presence.
